Turn Formulas into the Values They Output – Copy/Paste Special

Postby Don » Fri Feb 03, 2012 4:42 pm

Here I will show you a very simple way to take any formula, function, or range of formulas or functions and turn them into the values that they output. This is called 'Pasting Values' or 'Pasting-Special Values' and will make it so that the cells will no longer update and it allows for you to have a static data set.

This will turn the contents of a cell from something like this:

=A1/B1

Into the visible output of the cell. If A1 is 10 and B1 is 5, the cell would then only contain:

2

instead of the formula that output 2.

To do this, select the desired cell or range of cells, hit Ctrl + C to copy and then hit Alt + E + S + V and Enter. That’s it!

You can also do this by hitting Ctrl + C, right-clicking any cell, clicking “Paste Special”, selecting “Values”, and hitting OK.
