Please tell me it's mandatory for a country to be entered for a contact to be considered valid.

No, only if a contact is made in a foreign country it will be counted. If that same contact is made on any of the other bands of modes it can still be counted, otherwise it will be a duplicate. Bottom line is the entry for a country contact does not have to show unless contact is made, and then if it meets the duplicate criteria, it will not be counted.

Is there any reason this whole thing can't be approached differently?
Have you thought about entering your data to a user form rather than directly to the spreadsheet?

There would be many advantages, not the least of which would be to allow filtering of existing data to determine duplication, based on all fields of concern, prior to the data being written to the sheet. Much simpler than formulas.
Could also be used to implement "dependent drop downs". This is what your last question over at MrExcel was referring to.

I apologise, I just found out what cross posting is, and will definitely NOT do it again. I have NOT abandoned the project. Recovering from a stroke, and trying to get back on my feet.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

I went looking to see how you "just found out what cross posting is". Seems cytop took a more direct approach than my PM.
It's not the cross posting that's the problem, it's the not providing links.

When I asked about considering a user form, I started working on something towards that.
My concern at the time was with the Countries, States and Counties.
When you never returned, I didn't go much further.
Here's what I had to that point.

If it's something you'd be interested in, I can continue, adding filtering to find "True Duplicates" and something to color the cells appropriately. The "helper columns" at the beginning would really simplify things in the calculation of totals and such.

As is, there is a message box that shows all the things that would be compared to all existing entries to determine duplicate or not.

I probably won't be around until after Boxing Day, don't think you guys have that in the States, it's the day after Christmas.

Best of the season.
See you then.

I am not comprehending the concept. My brain is running so fast that I cannot think properly. I am open to anything that will attain the final goal. Thank you for the help. The more I use the head, the better it should get (according to the doc).

Does the message box indicate everything
that would need to be the same for a contact to be considered a duplicate?
