Using Macros after upgrading rom Excel 97 to 2010

Postby lawitcher1 » Mon Nov 23, 2015 5:31 am

I have downloaded a logging program, and am in the process of making some changes to suit my preferences. I am using excel 2010, and cannot figure out how to make the Macros work after upgrading from excel 97. I have looked at the instructions from Excel, but still am having a duhhhh moment. Any help would be appreciated. Please see attached copy.

Hi and welcome

there does not seem to be any macro in this wbook. Be aware that wbooks containing macros are saved with the xlsm extension, not xlsx

Also don't forget to "enable macro's" in 2010

Can't help more than that, macro's don't work well in XL under Ubuntu

Please look at the following cells in white at the top left of sheet "Station Log". I cannot access these cells; a window pops up stating "Macro not available for use"
Clear Speech, Show All Entries, Do Search, Print Search, Prefix Search, Save Log, QRZ.com, New Log Entry, New Line, Ditto, Date Time (I do not need this cell) & Band Plan.

That's because there are no macros in this workbook.

Excel 97 used the .xls file extention for both macro enabled workbooks and workbooks with no macros.
When Excel 2007 came along things changed. There's now .xlsx and .xlsm file extensions.
Saving a file, even an existing .xlsm or .xls file, as .xlsx will remove the macros from the file.

You'll need to go back to the last .xls version you have that works, load it into Excel 2010 and save it as an .xlsm, macro enabled file.
