Postby Shushant27 » Thu Dec 15, 2016 2:09 am

Hello,

I am working on excel.

I want Sr. No. to be counted if the cell in next column is not same as the cell above it.

Example of it as below:- Can you help me generate this.

Sr. No. Code
1 AB005
AB005
2 AB006
3 AB007
AB007
4 AB008

Can you suggest some trick.

What do you mean by "counted"? Using the sample data provided, what exactly are you looking to do?

Dear Sir
please note the file enclosed, may be this is what you are looking at, in the given file the formula used is
=IF(D14=D13,"",MAX($C$3:$C13)+1)
this means
Col c: will have serial numbers
Col D: will have your AB001, etc etc
when D14 is equal to D13, the cell will display blank, if not it will add one to the largest number available above the cell in Col C
if this donot serve your purpose, you may write back here please
Regards
