Excel 2011 - Count number of instances that each item in SS is listed

Postby paul53 » Wed Oct 19, 2016 5:25 pm

I am trying to build a schedule that I can test by using functions, maybe VLookup and CountIF combination. Basically the schedule will have about 75 - 100 teams that will play 5 games each. I want to be able to, without doing a CountIF for each team name, get a count of how many games each team has (assuming we have spelled them all the same) and then display what their field number and game time is for each of their 5 games. (sometimes it is 6 games but if I can get help on the one, should be able to create the other).

Thanks,
Paul

Hi
perhaps a Pivot Table will do the job?

Dang, based on the design of the schedule I don't think a pivot table will be an efficient approach. If I sent you a copy to look at will that help?
