Copy conditional formatting from one cell to another

Postby Parmaker » Fri Dec 16, 2011 5:26 pm

Hope I'm posting in the correct location. This is the first time I've used this.
I'm using conditional formatting to highlight a cell that has the same value of a range of 5 other cells. The rule reads
=$A$4,$H$2:$L$2 and it works fine. The problem is when I try to copy it to cell A5. The rule changes to
=$H$2:$L$2,$A$4:$A$5 and I didn't want to include cell A4. I tryed to change the rule in A4 by deleting the dollar sign to read =$A4,$H$2:$L$2 but excel automatically re-inserts the dollar sign. Is there anyway to accomplish this without having to setup conditional formatting on each individual cell?

Hi,
On my Excel 2003 your formula produces an error: "You may not use Unions, Intersections or array constants for conditional formatting criteria." So, you seem better off than me.

the following formula worked for me when entered on the "Formula Is" tab:
Code: Select all
=MATCH($D11,$C$10:$C$21,0)

I hope it can work for you, too.

I do this for "honour and country" - much less of the latter, actually.
If I helped you, award points, plenty of them.
If I bored you, deduct points for being too long-winded. (I know, :lol)
