Excel Hyperlink tool

Postby art_matthews » Wed Dec 14, 2011 8:32 am

I'm trying to Hyperlink a cell that will open a folder. After the folder is found I click open and all looks good on the hyperlink, changes color and underlined normally in the cell. When I click on it, a message comes up from MS Excel, "This operation has neen cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator", then hit the OK box.
I have no restrictions because I can easily go to this folder and I have Hyperlinked successfully in Power Point. So, where is the problem? Is it in the Excel settings? Maybe Hyperlinks wont open files or folders? The Hyperlink tab drop down says' Create a Link to a Web page, a picture, an email address or a program. Maybe not folders? Help!

Not sure why this is happening. I can insert a link to a folder by leaving the option for "Existing File or Web Page" selected. I would think to look into the security settings of Excel for 2007 and later versions - Office Button > Excel Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings - but that might not be of much help here.

Here are a few links that might help solve your issue:

If not, which version of Windows/Excel are you using?

Thanks Don,
I'm operating with Windows 7, Excel 2010
Only one of the links you provided may apply, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325478
for MS Office. I'll provide this info to my Administrator. The other links were for using Outlook
I'll also look into the Security Settings.
Thanks again, you've been helpful!
