Auto Install

Postby charliep » Thu Dec 29, 2011 11:56 am

Auto install, I'm working with a dropdown box with a list of 10 different items, in column B. My question is, Can I create a description in column C depending on what I selected in Column B.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

You would need to use a vlookup function for this. You could have a table containing the descriptions somewhere in the spreadsheet and then put the vlookup function that references that table in the cell in column c.

Using the vlookup function can be kind of confusing if you've never done it before, so here is a video tutorial that will walk you through how to use the vlookup function:

hope this helps :)

Hi,
I feel I could give a better answer if I would better understand your question. A workbook to look at would be very helpful!
I take it that column B is in the worksheet, not the drop down.
I take it that the drop down is a validation list.
I now presume that you want a validation drop down in column C that is loaded in dependence of what was selected in Column B.
Having come this far I have two questions.
1. Are my suppositions correct?
2. Are you trying to do all that without the use of code?
Have a great day? :D

I do this for "honour and country" - much less of the latter, actually.
If I helped you, award points, plenty of them.
If I bored you, deduct points for being too long-winded. (I know, :lol)
