Need to get rid of all changes to a workbook made yesterday

Postby Jessica » Thu Dec 08, 2011 10:19 am

Hi, I need help ASAP. Overnight our tracking spreadsheet got messed up. We think that someone sorted it but didn't grab all of the columns. This had made our QA information not match to the defect information anymore. How can I go back to yesterday afternoon's version of the file? Please help!!!

You can check if there is an autorecover or saved file in the application data. You will want to go somewhere like this:

C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\

Or, to find the exact location on your computer, go to Excel > Office Button > Excel Options > Save > and look in the Save Workbooks section.

That said, there is no guarantee that this would work since the file was saved yesterday. A good approach in the future might be to store a tracking file in another folder. You could setup a macro that would automatically save a backup version to another folder each time you went to close this file.
