# instead of text?

I can find several questions addressing this problem, but no answers; help please. When I enter text, leave the cell, it all turns to the # sign; I've wrapped text and enlarged cell. No good. Still coming out # sign. Today 12-22 first time ever -- I've been using Excel a very long time? Help

Hi,
Let me try to replicate the error on my machine.
A) give me an actual text.
B) tell me the cell format.
If the text starts with a number or a mathematical sign, including a bracket, precede the entry with an apostrophe. The apostrophe will not show or print but make sure the entry is understood as Text.
